But what is a CRS Score and how do you increase it?

CRS stands for Comprehensive Ranking System. It is a merit based pointing system that assigns an individual a score in the Express Entry Pool. This was developed by the Canadian government and is used to assess skills, language ability, education and more. You are assigned a score out of 1200 divided into various factors when you submit a profile to Express Entry Pool. You will then receive an invitation to apply based on your ranking which needs to be higher than 760.

How do you increase it?

  1. Relatives:

Having anyone from your family, be it by blood or adopted as a permanent resident in Canada can increase your score. You’ll just have to prove your relationship. I’ll add 15 points to your score.

  1. Language Test:

You will have to gain a minimum score out of 100 in the approved language test. This easily increases your chance of getting a higher score. Here are the minimum scores required in each field: Listening- 8.0, Writing- 7.0, Reading- 7.0 and Speaking- 7.0.

  1. Education Programme:

Your education is worth 150 points. Completing an education programme and having it on your profile increases your score. And if you have 2 or more degrees, you get extra points.

  1. Job:

Apply for a job in Canada or if you already have one, keep going. Having work experience in Canada can help bring you extra points than a job you have outside the country.

  1. Having a spouse can be of help:

Your spouse’s language, education and Canadian work experience points can be added to your score. While education and work experience are allotted 10 points each, language ability can add up to 20 points. Now that’s a total of 40 points. Use it to your advantage.
